Local Artists J. T. and Linde Ravize presenterd for the Tahoe Art League’s February meeting, on Wednesday, Feb. 13. They are the authors of Hearts of Light, a coffee table book of beautiful Lake Tahoe Photography (by J. T.) and inspirational poetry (by Lindé).
Creating Hearts of Light was more than a commercial venture for the Ravizés. This book captures the profound beauty of Lake Tahoe and highlights the environmental concerns of the Lake, our spectacular natural resource.
The Ravizes were instrumental in calling “Washington’s” attention to our concern for the lake’s clarity and they contributed to the success of the 1997 Presidential Summit on Lake Tahoe.
While here in Tahoe, President Clinton and Vice President Gore were each presented a 35- by 50-inch framed color photograph of a sunrise over Emerald Bay titled “Indigo Dawn”, Lake Tahoe.
The photo was shot, by J. T. Ravizé, in early June at approximately 5:30 a.m. during a three-minute period when conditions were “just right.” The web address www.aframeofmind.com will bring you to Hearts of Light—Impressions of Lake Tahoe, the Ravizé’s website. On this site, J.T. relates: “I visited Lake Tahoe as a child and learned to ski here.
Fond memories of summer adventures are etched in my mind as well. However, it wasn’t until I moved to the area full time in my early twenties that I truly began my apprenticeship into the alchemy of light and weather, of texture and color, and rhythm and pattern that made Lake Tahoe the singular and significant site that it is.
Almost twenty years later, I feel that I have barely scratched the surface of the complexity of Lake Tahoe, and I look forward to manifesting ever more quintessential and exquisite photographs of the region as my own ability to perceive matures and improves.”
Lindé relates: “As soon as I finished college, I drove here with high hopes and low funds, and I stayed. Despite storms of adversity in many forms, I stayed. This place is in my soul … The mountains, the air, and most of all the lake.
