BATS – Bringing Art to Schools
The BATS Program
Welcome to the BATS program, held under the auspices of the Tahoe Art League. BATS is an art appreciation and art history program offered to all 1800 students in the five Lake Tahoe Unified School District Elementary Schools, K – 5th grade levels. This important visual arts program presents a unique opportunity for elementary students to become more informed about classic works of art, their meanings, and the styles and movements that inspired them.
BATS is run by more than 100 volunteers offering more than 600 classes a year and is supported by grants and donations. Some of the programs that we provide are:
• Art and art history to 1800 children in South Lake Tahoe
• Display children’s art in the El Dorado Community Library
• Arrange field trips to the Haldan Gallery at Lake Tahoe Community College, including an associated art project.
• Visiting Artists Program, where TAL artists visit the classroom and share their special art talents with the children.
• Special Community Art Projects. Last year, each school created silk art, which are now permanently displayed at the courthouse as quilt wall hangings.
• Special topic art classes. From silk painting to ceramics, children receive the gift of expanding their art experience through a wide range of media.
Volunteers Needed!!!
As you see, the BATS program is a very active group of people and artists, and we are in need of more volunteers to help with classroom and administrative duties. You do not need to be an artist to join our team. We offer free training and assistance to all volunteers.
If you are interested in joining the BATS team, please call Joy Rogers, Director, 530-573-1657. And, check out our website BATSart.org for more information.
